We were there…”Ata’s Place” in Karaburun, Izmir.
Last weekend, we, as 5-6 people, had a great time in Yeni Liman, Karaburun, Izmir.

The small boutique hotel we stay in can be checked at http://www.nisanyan.net/otl_view.asp?id=570&brMode=s1
It is called Ata’s place and Mr. Ata and the fisherman Uncle Erol are the ones who make this place more special than anything else…
Words would not be enough to describe the food we had at each meal. They were totally composed of the bread that the see granted to Uncle Erol’s fishing net everyday and all were enriched by Ata’s special recipes.
Uncle Erol is a more than 72 years old, half Greek- half Turkish fisherman, originally from Istanbul and he has even a fan club at facebook !!! It is hard to explain how nice to listen his stories when he is drinking 3-4 glasses of raki every night and incredible to see that he jumps out of his bed every morning at 5-6 am to throw his net for the next meal…
The sea was just in front of our small house and our veranda.
It was just green behind us on the hills…you dont see around many of those ugly concrete buildings that started to cover the coasts of Turkey
And, the music gatherings with the speacial participation of Mr.Incirci and the “Baglama” player Mr. Mustafa were breathtaking…
Thanks to all who made this holiday very special for us…

Is this a place to spend a holiday with children (6 and 8)?
Actually it’s ok to take children but you should know there are no special activities or something for children and the place is quite isolated.
Hello, everyone!
I was browsing the web to recommend Ata’s place to a colleague in Geneva and found this blog. We spent over a month in Karaburun last summer. We were very privileged to enjoy the lavishing hospitality of a friend, who offered her huge house up in the hills entirely to us - the family of four - with a gorgeous view of the sea and Lesbos. Eren introduced us to Ata and we called the place SERENDIPITY - a splendor of warmth and comfort in remote Karaburun. We spent all the days in Ata’s place, enjoying the secluded beach, fantastic snacks, lunches, dinners and a special attention Ata generously offers to each of his guests. Uncle Erol is a true wonder. With my very limited Turkish aided by my husband’s translation I deeply enjoyed the passion and excitement with which Uncle Erol was going over the movies of Fellini and Bunuel and quoting Che Guevara. As the conversation flowed into the Dolce Vita I thought that dressed in his chic white suit Uncle Erol truly reminds of Marcello Mastroianni …
Lots of fun, music, singing, dancing, fantastic food, very family like atmosphere, although much respecting your privacy, if you need one, - this is all Ata’s Place!!!
